Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 13 September 2023

From the Principal This week we finish the term with the election of College Captains for 2024. Eighteen candidates applied for the position and after Ms O’Neill and I interviewed each candidate six were shortlisted to move to the final stage of selection, where they will present a speech to their peers in the Senior School on Friday. Elections also occur for other prefect roles and overall, we had over seventy students applying for leadership positions. This number of students wanting to give…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 6 September 2023

From the Principal Today I spent some time in the Upper Primary Building and had a sneak preview of the Year 6 students setting up for their Exhibition. The artefacts they have produced and the learning they have been able to display is remarkable. It is obvious how much thought and preparation has gone into their final products, and it is wonderful to see the themes around sustainability, social justice, and international-mindedness. The interdisciplinary approach to the Year 6 Exhibition is…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 30 August 2023

From the Principal Recently I was reading an article on Social Justice and education and the crux of the article was around how the concepts of the environment and sustainability also need to be entwined with discussions and actions around social justice. While I think as a school there are many ways in which we can look to do more in these areas, I was also heartened by what we are already doing in this space. In both the Junior School and Senior School, we have student committees dedicated…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 23 August 2023

From the Principal Last Thursday, the day after the Matilda’s went down 3-1 to England, I very deliberately wore my Matildas scarf. Actually, it was a Socceroos one because the Matildas ones had all sold out. I did so because I wanted our students to know that regardless of winning or losing, I was super proud of our team for what they had achieved, how they had conducted themselves and the legacy they have left because of their efforts. This is such an important message to convey - winning…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 9 August 2023

From the Principal One of the many things I love about working in a school is that there is always such a variety of activities going on at any one time. This week has been no exception. Our International Weeks are underway starting with Spanish Day on Monday with the Churros van on site and Paella being served at Centrepoint Café. The GISSA Intermediate Boys’ Soccer championships were held on the oval yesterday and saw our boys finish as champions with a 2-0 win over Christian College. The…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 2 August 2023

From the Principal It would be remiss of me to not start today’s e-news with a big shout out to the Matilda’s for their fantastic win over Canada over the weekend, moving them through to the round of 16 in the World Cup. What an inspirational demonstration of resilience and team spirit to overcome the loss to Nigeria and come back so well against the current Olympic champions. Three of our Kardinia students had a special experience at the game being flag bearers for the Australian team in…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 26 July 2023

From the Principal Every week in our e-news there are stories of students undertaking great experiences and making the most of the opportunities that are presented to them, both at school and in the wider community. Even making the most of one club, one committee, one co-curricular activity, camp or learning experience can make a difference in a student’s life. The more students can avail themselves of these experiences, show commitment, curiosity, a great work ethic and passion, the more…

Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 19 July 2023

From the Principal Welcome back to Term 3 2023 It is hard to believe that we are now halfway through the school year. While the winds have been icy cold, the smiles on the faces of the students I was greeted by as I walked through the school today were warm. We have welcomed several new students and new staff to the school this term. The students have come from across the state, the country and indeed the world. Some will stay for a short time as exchange students and others will be with us…
