Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 23 October 2024
From the Principal Today, I would like to highlight the work of our College Community Council (CCC), a group of volunteer parents and community members who are working hard to build connections within our College community. They have had some fun and successful events this year including a trivia night, coffee mornings, a wine and cheese evening and the first of what we hope will be regular business club gatherings. The final event of the year is the inaugural Principal’s Dinner which will…

From the Principal Last Friday night we farewelled the Year 12 Class of 2024 with a fabulous official Graduation Ceremony. It is always such a special moment to see students cross the stage and receive their certificates in recognition of completing their secondary schooling journey. Of course, many of them still have exams to finish, but their formal schooling is complete, and I congratulate them all for achieving this significant milestone. On a quite different but connected theme, we…

From the Principal As we start the beginning of Term 4, it also heralds the end of the school journey for our Year 12 students. Year 12 will graduate on Friday, but they are also having a series of events throughout this week to mark the occasion. Yesterday was a whole school assembly including the Prefect handover and a flash mob singing the school song ‘Bridges to the Future.’ This morning, we had a delicious breakfast for Year 12 and our staff, and at lunch time Year 12 participated in a…

From the Acting Deputy Principal - Matt Baron This year I have had the opportunity to work in different parts of the school as the Acting Deputy Principal on two separate occasions. As my second stint in this role comes to an end, I can’t help but have a renewed admiration for the diverse experiences the Kardinia community can engage in. The past week alone has seen several events showcasing the many achievements of our students within our community, including the PYP Exhibition, Student Led…

From the Principal This morning, I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying eight members of our International Council to the Global Student Voice Forum final presentation in Melbourne. This group of students, along with our International Council members, admirably supported by Ms Sophie Armes and Ms Yuting Zhao, have undertaken several projects to promote and encourage international mindedness within the College this year. As a cornerstone of the College values, this is especially…

From the Principal This last week has once again shown that the Arts are alive and well at Kardinia International College. Just a few weeks ago we saw the incredible Junior School Production of Shrek Junior and then last weekend the student-led KICPIC Production of Oliver Junior was also sensational. Not only is it about the talent that is seen on the stage but also the amazing level of student engagement behind the scenes, directing, choreography, set design, backstage, make up, costumes and…

From the Principal Each year we undertake the LEAD survey run by Independent Schools Victoria (ISV). The results of this survey help to inform our strategic goals, benchmark against other like schools, and get a good sense from our College community about those areas where we are doing well and the areas where there is room for improvement. Thank you to everyone who has already responded, your responses are greatly appreciated. To get an accurate reading of the survey data and achieve a…
Kardinia eNews - Wednesday 21 August 2024
From the Principal This week there were two key highlights for me. The first is a regular favourite on my yearly calendar, the interviews for College Captain. I am in awe of the multitude of ways the students who put themselves forward for these roles contribute to their school community, often with little recognition or reward but through a genuine desire to help make the world a better place for their peers and the wider community. I spoke with each of the students about how, regardless of…

From the Principal Following on from my eNews last week about the demonstration of gratitude and appreciation displayed by the Australian Olympians, another concept I saw shine through is described by Julia Baird in her book Phosphorescence. Julia talks about the concept of Freudenfreude, the antonym of the more well-known German word, Schadenfreude, which is the malicious enjoyment derived from someone else’s misfortune. Freudenfreude is experiencing joy in the success of others. During the…
